Our Little Roo is 4 Today!

Today our little Riley Rose is 4 years old (and Zack is still 4 too, she tells everyone! Seems she likes being the same age as her older cousin.) What a year it has been for her! Got a new baby brother, lived with Grandma and Grandpa for a while, got potty trained, started school AND Sunday school. Yikes, she's all grown up! We love you miss Roo. Here's another sneak peak at some of the professional photos.

Photos Are Here!

Got the CD with our pictures from the professional photo shoot. I'm not going to post all 56 images, but I might post a few more late in the week. I have to decide what our Christmas Card photo will be before I post. It would be silly to post the photo and then SEND it to all of you;)

Professional Photos

Let's see if this works. I am so excited to show you some of the photos we had professionally taken by an old friend from grade school. I can't wait for the CD to arrive in the mail, so I'm trying to pirate these from her Facebook page to post for those who don't have an FB account. I hope this works! Like I said, this is just a preview. We had an hour-long session on the 10th and we get the complete CD sometime this week to print what we want. I can't wait to see the rest!!

Note: Doodle is naked (or mostly) because it was 80 degrees on the day of our shoot. He was getting kinda cranky with all the wardrobe changes so I gave up...turned out kinda cute anyway!

For info on the photographer see "Perceptions Photography" link on my "Friends in Biz" section to the right. Erin (Cahill) Mason is the little sister of a girl I was friends with back at St. Rs. Thanks to Facebook for the reconnection!

Stillwater

Josh and I went to Stillwater for our 10th Anniversary. Here's a little bit of a highlights/recap. If you want more, I posted some on Facebook. Or send me a message and I'll post more here. Fer now, I'm off to bed!

Apple Jacks

My sisters, mom and I took the kiddos to the Apple Orchard today. Fun day, but I'm pooped! They have a shortage of apples this year because of the Spring hail and late frost, which meant no apple cider and the honeycrip crop was pretty banged up...bummer...but there was lots for the kids to keep busy. The favorites were the maze, the hay bail slides and the animals. We picked up a few pumpkins for Halloween too. Fun day with the cousins!

P.S. Have I mentioned Riley and her belly button?

Be Green With Your Red, Orange and Yellow

What to do with your autumn leaves

When the leaves fall from your trees, consider them a resource. They contain nutrients that your lawn and garden needs! After playfully enjoying your leaf pile, here are a few eco-friendly options.

What do do with your leaves
Bag up dry leaves to use as a carbon source ("browns") for your backyard compost pile in the coming year.
Use leaves to provide a protective layer of insulation for perennial gardens and shrubbery, either bagged or loose.
Use a mulching mower to break leaves into tiny pieces and leave them on your lawn.
Compost your yard waste at home or at a compost site.
What NOT to do with your leaves
Don't throw yard waste in the trash. Mixing yard and tree waste with your trash is illegal and is not the best use of this resource.
Don't rake leaves onto the street or sidewalk. Leaves raked into the street end up being washed down storm drains and into wetlands and lakes. When they break down in water bodies, they release nutrients, which cause algae blooms in the summer. Don't rake additional leaves into lakes or streams, either.
Don't burn large piles of leaves. Burning leaves releases large amounts of air pollution. These pollutants can cause breathing problems for sensitive groups and lead to long-term health effects for all of us.
A new rule for curbside pick up of yard waste

Residents in the Twin Cities area who bag their yard and organic waste for curbside pick up are now required to put their waste in compostable bags--either paper bags or compostable plastic bags.
