Happy Halloween!

Friday we went over to my friend Kim's house for a play date with her daughter Lexi. Kim is a photographer for a kinda hobby and she had her living room set up to take some pics of the girls and Rowan. Can't wait to see what she got on her camera, but here's a few I got with mine:)

P.S. Sorry for the overload of pictures lately. Did I mention I love Fall? There is SO MUCH going on!

Fall Festival - MG Style

I had a play date at the Fall Festival in Maple Grove today...well ok, Riley sorta did, but really I did! It was with a friend from grade school that I try to get together with a few times a year...wish it was more, her little guy is so cute! WE did a little Trick or Treating on Main Street, got some free baby pumpkins, some coupons and stuff for grown ups and best yet, Colleen, Liam, Rowan Riley and Molly (yes, that's me!) all ate at the Irish Pub at the end of the street. It was Kids Eat Free day!!! YEAH and made a VERY sticky caramel apple there too! Yum! Thanks, DW!!

I'll post pictures of Liam (I will add to this post) when I get permission. I don't like to post pics of other people's kids without their ok!

Green Halloween

Celebrating a Green Halloween

Halloween is black and orange. It can be green, too! Here are things you can do to make a scary time of year more sustainable.

Pumpkins
Search the Minnesota Grown Directory for local farms and farmers' markets selling pumpkins in your area. Look for organically grown pumpkins, too.
When the fun is over, put your jack o' lantern in your compost bin.
Some communities have pumpkin collection events. Pumpkins are collected for animal feed. Ask your city or local hauler if such an event exisits in your area.
Costumes
Make your own, with supplies from second-hand and thrift stores, as well as stuff you find during fall cleaning. For ideas, check out Coolest-Homemade-Costumes.com.
Swap costumes with your friends and neighbors. You could even throw a "find a costume" party before Halloween.
Rent a costume.
Treats
Look at the co-op or natural foods section of the grocery store for treats that have minimum or recycled-content packaging.
Hand out treats that can be used again and again, like pencils or small boxes of crayons.
Start a Trash Brigade through TerraCycle. TerraCycle collects common trash items (like candy wrappers) and creates everyday recycled products.
Arm your trick-or-treaters with reusable treat bags. Canvas shopping bags or pillowcases work well.
Hopefully, Halloween this year can be a treat for the planet, too!

Boo Blast

We went to Bylery's Halloween shin-dig yesterday and I would describe it as always to be organized chaos:) They give away things like baby carrots, mini cans of pop and kettle corn, so it's something fun and different. They also have activities like face painting and dance contests...Roo was bummed because she didn't get picked to the Hula Hoop contest, but other than that it was a lot of fun!

More from our Photo Shoot!

We have now picked the photos that will be on the Christmas card, so here are a few more of my faves from our professional shoot a few weeks ago that didn't make the card.

Riley's Stats

Riley had her 4-year-old check up today. Here are her stats:

37.2 Lbs.
39.5 Inches
50-75th percentile in both.

We proportioned:) She had two shots and a nasal flu vaccine...not to happy about those, but she was a trooper!

Poor Duck!

They had a petting Zoo at the Corn Maze. This poor duck didn't stand a chance!
