Random Filler

I know...you're saying, c'mon Molly, where's the blog? You're slacking...Yup. I agree with you. It's this winter, I am trapped in my house far more than I would like and even then I don't have the energy to take pictures of the same ol' things every day. Maybe I should go take a picture of the snow bank at the end of my driveway that's taller than I am...but that's depressing. Never fear, loyal readers (all 3 of you?), we are celebrating my mom's birthday and I am also taking some friends to see the Swans in Monticello this weekend, so there will be picture posts soon! I promise!

In the meantime, think warm thoughts, and remember SPRING TRAINING has begun! GO TWINS!

Prairie Falcon?

Another somewhat rare find in this part of Minnesota, I found this guy on the way to work yesterday and I to go back today to get a picture. He's not in a good place to stop and take pictures so I had to snap a few quick and go. Wish I had better shots, but according to my sister's real live bird nerd friend, this is a Prairie Falcon...also a little out of his norm because of the extreme winter.

More Snow Owl Fun!

Ok, since I am kinda raising my kids to be bird nerds too, I wanted to get Riley up to Ramsey to see the Snowy Owl before he migrates North again. Since Josh had President's Day off and Rowan had a doctor visit (4 year well-child check-up, nothing to report there!), we were out and about Monday and decided to head up and see if we could spot him. He was perched on the last of a row of houses, right near the road so we got some great pics. Or I should say Josh did...I think all the pictures I kept were his! Just a recap: For non-bird peeps who think I'm crazy. It's pretty rare for Snowy Owls to migrate this far south in the winter. And pretty cool ~ Just saying!

Rowan's 4-year Stats

Not sure the nurse who was measuring Rowan knew how to read the machine, but according to her, Rowan is 43.5 inches (grew 6 inches since last year?) and 37.5 lbs. I feel like both of those could be a little off, but the doc seemed ok with those readings. He didn't tell me the percentiles, but he usually measures right in the 50% on both heigh and weight. He's happy and healthy and has cows in one ear and horses in the other. Also, he had one shot and took it like a trooper. NO tears! Yikes. I don't think he quite knew what hit him. But the promise of DQ perked him right up!

Basketball is Over...Now What?

Ok, so basketball is over. This weekend was Riley's last "game" and I don't know it, but there was a trophy presented at the end too! (I was there for the game, but unfortunately I missed the presentation because I had 2 Girl Scout Cookie Deliveries that arrived during the game!) But Josh was there and he got a few pictures. I wish I would have known!

Riley's team showed GREAT improvement over the past weeks, winning the drill where they have to run to half court, grab the ball and dribble in for a "lay-up"! And I think the kid  Riley is matched up with here might even be a friend of my nephew's? It was a good end of the season!

More Bird Nerd Fun!

Ok, so while I seem to be looking up a lot more, I was driving to pick Rowan up at school today and look WHO I found? I have never seen a Great Horned Owl in the wild either...it's a GREAT week for owl watching I guess!

Owl-lusive!

Meg is going to be on my case for not posting again, so here it is...I'm on an owl hunt. Snowy Owls normally live in Canada and sometimes far northern Minnesota in the winter. Because the winter has been so cold, their food has moved farther south and so there have been spottings as far south as Southern MN. There are a few spots that I am on a mission to find one! If you want to see the Snowy, Meg has seen it up in Ramsey and has pictures posted on her blog. My sister-in-law also has one near their home in Henderson...I am dying to see one in the wild. I have seen the one at the MN Zoo, but this is such a rare thing I REALLY want to see it myself...I will post pictures WHEN I see one...So far I have checked Ramsey and Maple Grove in "known" sighting areas. They continue to "owl-lude" me!

Brrrr-midji!

Last weekend we took a one day adventure up to Bemidji to see our college "daughter"...our neighbor Mikayla...up at school. We chose this weekend because another neighbor kid had a hockey tourney up there the same weekend so we stayed in the same hotel as the hockey team and went to one of Jack's games too! But boy was it a lousy weekend to be up north! We came home in near white-out conditions! Whew! But we are all home safe and all cars in our group were in tact (can't say the same for all the hockey families...some of them had some fender bender damage because of icy roads later in the day).
